Marriage

Posted Monday, October 13, 2008, at 3:34 PM

Over the weekend I put together a bachorlette party. The maid of honor and I went shopping and bought stuff for games, food and prizes. We spent about three hours cooking and decorating. The theme was slumber party. By the time we finished playing games and having "girl talk" it was about 5 a.m. Sunday morning. Believe it or not all of us girls were back up at 10 a.m. cooking breakfast and cleaning the mess. We had a great time!!

This next weekend my friend will be getting married. I'm one of the bridesmaids and my boyfriend is actually one of the groomsmen. Even though, puffy dresses and hairspray are not my thing, I will be sucking it up for my friend. I will smile for pictures and wear shoes that will cause blisters the size of Texas to grow on my feet, all for my friend. If that isn't true friendship then I don't know what is!

The point to this is simple: I'm 23, I just graduated from college (with plans to hopefully go back) and I live with my boyfriend. Though there are times that we do fight like we are married, we are not. While most of my boyfriend's friends are now married and a majority of my girlfriends are avoiding relationships like the plague, there are a few people that are simply at peace with their relationships, I am one of them.

Though a lot of people around our age are ready for a "lifetime" commitment, I am not. I have nothing against friends or anyone else that wants to get married, it just isn't something that my boyfriend and I are ready for.

Ryan is a good man, he works hard for us and he always puts my needs over his own. He has proven to me time and time again his dept honesty, the truth he speaks even when people don't want to hear it and loyalty to our relationship and me. I couldn't ask for anyone to treat me better, and I wouldn't want anyone else. Though we have our times where we really get on each other's nerves, and pick fights over stupid things it inevitably work out in the end.

I don't honestly know if he and I will be together forever. I can't know that, and I am OK with that. Right now he is just what I need in my life and he is perfect for me, and though we won't be following some of our friends down the aisle anytime soon, I am happy and content with that. Waiting and enjoying these moments that we have together are worth it to me!!!

I admire you so much for being who you are. I can't wait to meet you and talk to you face to face. You are a sweetheart and so intelligent!

Marriage, in the legal sense, is a legal relationship between two people that establishes the line of inheritence of the survivors and the division of assets if it fails to be permanent. It has nothing to do with love. Marriage, in the religious sense, depends on your religion.

I am batting .500 in the "marriage" game, I'm in my second. But in each of them, I considered myself "married" when I asked the question, not only after the ceremony. There are some who say that marriage is a fifty-fifty relationship, but my wife says that marriage works best if both give 100%. I think that she is right. Love is something that you gain by giving it away.....lol!

Good luck to the new bride and groom, and to you in your relationship.
