The movie is never as good as the book!Posted Monday, November 17, 2008, at 11:58 AM
I am the type of person that would rather read the book then see the movie.
Usually whenever the movie comes out that is based on the book that I have read, I cringe. My boyfriend refuses to watch certain movies with me because I make comments like, "that didn't happen in the book," "that character didn't say that," "they completely deleted two chapters!" This is the point where I throw a pillow at the TV screen, my boyfriend leaves the room and I finish watching the movie in a less than desirable happy state. This week, "Twilight" will be released in theaters. Friday is a day that many people have been counting down on their calendar since word of the movie was mentioned. I admit, I have read all four books and even went to Wal-Mart on my lunch break to buy the fourth book. I enjoyed reading them and found delight in the characters. With the release of this movie, I will be waiting a few days to avoid the crowd. But I will give in and go see it. I'm going to keep an open mind and hope that by being in public, I won't start hurling things at the screen. (From what I have heard, it is suppose to follow the book, but that is what they all say.) My boyfriend, much to his dismay, will be going with me to stop me from making comments and getting kicked out of the theatre. (I'm planning on bribing him with dinner.) I can guarantee that as soon as the movie is over, I will be going to the bookstore to browse the selections of my favorite authors and catch any deals that might be going on for the holiday season. I will also be talking to other people who feel the same way I do, because the movie is never as good as the book. Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

I somewhat agree with you. There are exceptions in my opinion. I read the book "Into the Wild" several years ago and was intrigued by the true life story of someone giving away everything to live in the "wild". When the movie came out, I thought "it won't be as good as the book!" but it followed the book very closely and was a very good movie! Hal Holbrook was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the movie! I also thought the Lord of the Rings movies were great as well and followed the books well. Good blog Kimberly! :)
I too have read all of the books and accompanying a van load of teenaged girls to the theatre this weekend. What I like best about this series, is like the Harry Potter series, they have been excellent bait with which to get a young person to become an avid reader. Though not quite as lengthy as the HP series, they are long enough to qualify as a full length novel, allowing those who have read them more apt to continue to read throughout their lives. Though some will argue that the books deal with the "underworld", they are no more fantasy than _The Wizard of Oz_ and readers learn more about emotional love and caring surmounting obstacles without the need for the teen characters being involved in a physical love relationship prior to marriage. Really deals with the issue well while at the same time keeps reader interested. Something really "novel" now a days.
Kimberly, just tell your boyfriend that he's your Edward and he will be a lot happier about having been dragged to the theatre! [lol]
I have to agree, Kimberly. I read The Shining when I was seventeen and have never enjoyed the movie. It was three AM when I was reading about those animal-shaped hedges stalking the boy. I was scared. In the movie that part was not so believable. It was laughable.
The movie is never as good as the book.
