I saw something that caused an un-lady-like reaction!

Posted Monday, June 15, 2009, at 1:55 PM

Today while driving down the street on my way to the bank I saw something that caused an un-lady-like reaction. The car was sitting in the turn lane, I swear, the music was up so loud the trunk was vibrating. I almost called the police because there could've been someone banging on the inside of the trunk trying to get out, the vibrations were crazy.

Don't get me wrong; I am a HUGE fan of music. I think it is a wonderfully creative way to express yourself and I find nothing wrong with that. However, if I have to question whether you have a person trapped in the trunk of your car. Well then that's a problem.

Please don't misconstrue, I turn my music up louder than I probably should. I also sing loudly at the top of my lungs while driving down the highway. But I do not sit at a stoplight with my bass so loud that the person in the next car can feel it.

I agree totally Kimberly! We have a savagely rude person who insists on going up and down my street at various times during the day and night (night being about 2am) with the bass so loud, it knocks things about in my living room!!!

I am so tired of being woke by the rude, selfish behavior of this person who obviously thinks that the world wants to hear their music in the middle of the night! I guess if you wanted to put a positive spin on it, we could say they are also very giving to be so willing to share their music with us all. Lol.

Isn't there a noise ordinance in this town? I am about to wait up for this person and pelt them with an egg. Lol. Sure, it would be rude and very disturbing....get my point? Lol.

Great blog Kimberly!

Same happens out here in the country. Our house is way back off the road and sometimes these loud car stereos vibrate the house and set the dogs off barking. Sad thing is that this will deafen those in the car as well and they will be hard of hearing when they grow older. So not only rude, not very smart either.

Sound pollution ordinance or not...there is a higher law of thinking about the other person when they have to listen to your music a block away from your car.

LOL.........well, I probably play the music in my car louder than the norm for a person my age. I do it for two reasons. One, some music, like Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, rock music, and a lot of Hank Williams, Jr. just isn't meant to be played softly. The second is that I'm already a bit hard of hearing and do not hear certain tones unless they are loud.

That said, I must wonder if there is a group of people who get in their cars to wake people up as someone comes by our house at 2 AM. My thought is that these people actually work the second shift.

I moved from Indianapolis to get away from all the thumping-bumping music. Now I've noticed it more lately then I had when I first moved here. That music (you know the particular kind where you hear no music, but just the bass vibrating violently) does if follow the drugs and the general decline of civilization or vice versa?

The ones playing this stuff at 2am are probably not second shifters. Come on Leo, I'm sure you got a look at some of these people, rest assured you and I and every one else are probably making part of the payment for that stereo system!

Michael, no, I've not seen the vehicle in question. I'm going on the fact that the occurances are almost predictable when I guess it is someone who works second shift.

Do you actually profile people on looks alone? On the music they listen to? I listen to a range of music from classical to Heavy Metal and everything in between. I "burn" my own CD's and play them on "random" so "the Old Rugged Cross, by Ernie Ford" might just play after "Iron Man, by Ozzy Osborne" or it might be something by Glen Campbell or Vivaldi.

I try not to judge people without knowing a good bit about them first, it saves having to eat "crow" later.

Leo,

Good point. I think you read more than I intended to say. What I meant was the drivers offending cars that frequent my area are well noted for doing nothing, nothing at all, except getting booked into CCJC. The stereo must be more expensive than the vehicle its mounted in. I'm not saying that folks who listen to different music than mine or play it too loud are ALL somehow bad people. That is how it sounded when I read my comment again, "Crow" nibbled on, with a grain of salt. Lol.

LOL, I've seen some of the rolling stereos, too. $500 car, $2000 in the sound system.....LOL!

I understand completely......that is absolutely rediculous to have the music up that loud.

Hey ~ I LOVE music too..... but doesn't anyone realize that when they are listening to music that loud when on the streets or highways, they can NOT hear emergency vehicles, or what about if coming to a train crossing........there is no way that they could hear a train approaching. Just a couple of examples why it is very very dangerous. Please please stop and think about the safety of yourself as well as others.
