Our little terror

Recently we acquired a new addition to our family.
K. T. is a longhaired black cat and he loves to spend his days lying in the sun. Originally, he was my brother's cat, but after the divorce of my parents, K. T. was left somewhat homeless. So to save him from the possibility of living out his final days in a shelter, he came to live with Ryan and I. When we were younger, my brother, sister and I wanted to name him Kitty, but my father told us that eventually he would grow into a cat and we couldn't call him that. My grandfather suggested Rascal. Instead, the name K.T. was given in honor of his personality and to prove to our dad that he would always be a kitten, we were right! He is only 5-years-old and still has much of his kitten tendencies. Not that I mind to much, I watch as he chases my 12-year-old cat Blue Star around the house. Blue Star deserves it though, when K.T. was a kitten Blue Star wasn't very nice to him. I guess the saying is true, karma will come back around and get you. K.T. sometimes believes that he is a dog, probably from mimicking my dad's German Shepard for all those years. It is very evident when he lays in the sun, instead of resting on his stomach like other cats, K.T. flops onto his left side first, and then rolls onto his back. He reminds me of a person lying on the beach getting a suntan. He then opens his mouth and his tongue hangs out. He loves to be involved in whatever you are doing. If you are folding clothes then he wants in the clothesbasket, if you are watching a movie then he wants on top of the television. This cute ball of fluff will jump from the top of one of my book shelves to the other, then nose dive onto the back of my computer chair. He sits on the headrest and watches the mouse go across the screen. There are times where he has climbed into my lap and started typing stories for me. Once he almost took out my monitor, he was going after the blinking cursor. For all of his bravery, he is still nervous about going outside. He has his own harness and leash. He can make it the steps and he does OK, but once we close the door, the cries start. I can't say I blame him he is fixed and his front claws were removed. He's been a house cat all his life and the out doors are scary. He's decided not to go outside without Ryan or I. K.T. loves to cause mischief! If he isn't chasing Blue Star then he wants to try and get into the birdcage with Ryan's birds! The birds don't like that and they are now in an entirely different room away from the cat. He follows me around the house and in the morning when the alarm is going off he is at the bedroom door meowing to wake me up. He loves to play with water, either in his water dish, the sinks or the shower. He also enjoys taking food from his food dish and putting in the water, which causes a very nice mess. We have learned he doesn't like baths. I know tonight when I go home this adorable fluffy cat will be waiting at the door. He will be exhausted from his day's activities of terrorizing my house and he'll eventually fall asleep in my lap while I'm reading. Yes, he causes a lot of havoc and it costs a little more for two cats, but I honestly couldn't imagine our home without the little terror. |
