Cooking

Posted Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at 8:18 PM

I think my favorite part about my current living situation is going home to visit my grandmother. On Saturday, I drove to Crawfordsville where I spent a large portion of my afternoon with my grandmother. Currently, she is having her kitchen and bathroom remodeled. However this hasn't stopped her, Sunday morning, after a rather late evening with my sister, I again visited my grandmother. Upon entering her house, I smelled something that members of my family are liable to fight over. My grandmother was cooking.

"Grandma, do I smell sloppy Joes," I said.

"You can smell that," she replied with a laugh. "Are you hungry?"

"Now I am," I said.

In my family, you don't go hungry. If the family is together, I can guarantee we are eating something. Growing up in my family meant all the important conversations and announcements happened at the kitchen table. From the time I was a little girl, I remember sitting at that table while watching as my grandmother worked her magic on dinner. Somehow, dinner always taste better at grandma's house.
