Then He Dances…

Posted Friday, October 24, 2008, at 6:32 AM

I tell you all, being a mother to a toddler is rough sometimes. He is into everything and anything and then when I get that mess cleaned up, he has found something new to destroy. There are times when I just want to put my fist through a wall and I sit helplessly looking up to heaven going, "God? Really? Seriously?" I pray for patience, even that takes too long before I am back at it again pleading even harder.

And then…he dances.

We go to Church last Sunday night and he will not sit still and I am just sure that everyone in the auditorium is wondering if this child has ever seen one moment of proper discipline in his short life. Here I am with that pasted on smile every Mother knows you get when you are embarrassed but still wanting to be firm with your child. (Yeah, you know the one!) I am too afraid to look around at the others just too scared that I will see that "Oh geesh!" look on their faces. I grimace inwardly and pick him up as the music begins to play and then…he dances.

He begins to clap and sing and dance in my arms with his voice crying, "Yee haw Mommy! I wuv Jebus!" I see my Pastor smiling as he hears my little boy's innocent, pure love coming out with such unbridled enthusiasm that it's infectiousness is undeniable. As the music ends and he is led off to the nursery by his Daddy the last thing the congregation hears is , "Mommy, tanks for Jebus and da moosic! I wuv Jebus Mommy!" He tries so hard to whisper.

We are home Monday morning and I put on some music and my little boy disappears from the kitchen and into the living room and I follow in about 1 minute. As I come out of the kitchen, I am met with my little boy standing in front of the stereo with his hands in the air, tears of joy in his eyes just like he witnessed in Church the day earlier and saying, "Tank you Jebus for moosic!!!!"

And then…he dances.

Jesus? Thank you for this little miracle you have so lovingly given to me.

Stay Tuned…

Karen, you are doing a great job with your blogs. I had a very active little boy. I never knew what was coming next, was he in the tree with his older sister daring him to climb higher? or maybe, climbing the side of the gazebo trying to get on the roof? I once woke up one morning after moving in our new home when he was 4 and couldn't find him. I panicked ran outside yelling for him to find him laying on the picnic table by the barn sound asleep. It was fear and gratitude all wrapped into one. There was times I wondered why I had such an overactive son, but I thank God everyday for the precious boy he gave me. He will be turning 18 soon, he has developed into such a great kid and he always hugs me every morning and every evening and says "I love you mom", even in front of his friends. Someday, I hope to have a grandson as active as he was.

But Jesus said, "Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." St. Matthew 19:14

May they all dance for the joy of it and the delight of their parents.

Dancing in church is like singing in the shower. No one is supposed to know you're doing it, but when they do it always brings a laugh.
