"I'll take my Christmas whole Thank you very much!"

Posted Thursday, December 4, 2008, at 9:15 AM

Having been brought up in a church going home, I was always acutely aware that Christmas was aptly named after the reason we have this Holiday to begin with. I am mad as a viper that there are some who are professing believers that still subscribe to the blatant usage of it's most degrading substitute term.

I have been told, "Oh Karen, it doesn't matter, it's simply a shortcut of convenience." How foolish that is! What if Christ decided to shortcut His mission from His Father while in human form? Then I guess that pesky crucifixion and resurrection sinless life thing could have simply been avoided! After all, Christ was sinless and came here to die for US, the most sinful of all. It is man's arrogance that once again, must find a way to make us the most important existence of all.

The arrogance of man never ceases to amaze me. We consistently find ways to dismiss any use or acknowledgment of our Creator and Savior. We take Him out of our schools and they fall apart (Thanks Madeline Murray O'Hare!) and then we take Him out of our government as well and look how great we are doing now! We do, however, condescendingly refer to Him on our money which, I figure must not be too much of a compliment, since money was NOT His greatest motivator, it is ours.

I have always had an issue with companies who refuse to keep Christ in Christmas. If they proudly display the dismissive substitution on their storefronts or in their place of business, then they will not get a penny from me during this time of spending and giving. I will not promote their arrogance with my money for sure!

Sometimes shortcuts are beneficial and even helpful, but the dismissal of Christ out of Christmas? There is no benefit to that whatsoever. I have friends who don't believe that Christ was born this time of year and I say "Great, celebrate in June, July or February for all I care, but keep Christ in all you do during your celebration." Furthermore, if you don't believe in Christ or His Father at all, then why mockingly celebrate the season at all? How arrogant and hypocritical we are! If I don't believe in let's say, football, I wouldn't be at a football game! I wouldn't be spending my money on merchandise or anything that supports that belief. I would focus my financial support on a cause and belief I hold dear and true.

So, don't shortcut my Christ or my Christmas! I wonder when that great day comes and all who believe whether privately or publicly that God and Christ knows each and ever hair on our head and most certainly our names, would be surprised to find out that fair was fair and all He has chosen to know about us is X.

I know that there are those will ask me about the Chi Rho reason due to the Greek symbol and I say IF that is the main reason why you do it then why not just spell out His name and dispel any doubt whatsoever where your stand is?

Merry CHRISTmas to all and to all, a reverent and peaceful season!!!

Stay Tuned…

LOL……………..I'll take my CHRISTmas whole, too, and I agree that companies that shorten it do not need my business.

Leo,

I read your blog after I had this posted and I did not intend to touch on the same subject. I assure you that this is no way meant to have been an answer or op-ed on your piece at all. I guess (as scary at this is) we are both in the same state of mind this season. Lol!

Sincerely,

Karen.

Karen,

Your attitude shows a distinct lack of tolerance for other religions, and even for other Christians not "towing the line" with regard to your protestant slant on this symbol and tradition.

From Wiki:

"The labarum has since been interpreted by Christians all over the world as a universal symbol of Christianity. Because it is composed of the combined chi and rho it is sometimes referred to as the "monogram of Christ". Some Protestant Christians, especially Restorationists, incorrectly reject its use due to what they believe to be pagan origins, although it was already in widespread use by Christians in the 3rd century, mostly on sarcophagi.

--Labarum chi-rho, second half of the 12th century, from the Augustine convent of Montréjeau (Haute-Garonne, France) (Musée de Cluny)

The interpretation of its use as a specifically Christian symbol is reinforced by the fact that Julian the Apostate removed it from his insignia, and that it was restored to use by his Christian successors.

It IS a Christian Symbol, worn by Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Priests on vestment garments throughout the year.

My grandfather had a wonderful saying which summed up religious tolerance. He would say "all the big roads lead to town. Do not criticize someone for choosing to take a different path".

Think about it.
