Drugs In a Small Town Pt. 3Posted Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at 7:24 AM
After a multitude of calls to our Prosecutors Office, I haven't received a single callback. I understand that our Prosecutor is very busy and I would have loved for the office to have sat down with me and educated the public about the job they do everyday.
I was hoping to be able to explain to you why the plea bargains are so rampant and what benefit that has to us as a community, but my calls went unanswered and requests denied via silence. I was hoping to help change the perception that some in our community currently have regarding the Prosecutor's Office, however, my calls went unanswered and requests denied via silence. Stay tuned for Part 4 where we have a very detailed and informative sit down with the Honorable Judge Joseph Trout aka "The Troutinator." That's right, where the Prosecution was just too busy, the judge stepped in and gave one tremendous interview and supplied me with a bevy of educational information and documents to help take us all through the judicial system step by step. Today I am meeting with Superintendent Bruce Lemon of the Putnamville Correctional Facility aka "The Farm." This should be an eye opener! Look forward to him and also Mr. Steve Sutherland the Director of the CLIFF program for drug and alcohol treatment as well the Community Corrections Director to teach us about in home incarceration and how cost effective that is for our community as well. Also coming soon, My Day With the Mayor! Stay tuned ... I'm off to the Big House! Karen Meister can be contacted at: ksframeofmind@yahoo.com. Karen,
I too wish that the prosecutors office would have agreed to meet with you. I would have really liked to know the answers to some of your questions. I fear though that Mr. Reberger will not answer your questions. I contacted him in regards to a question and have not heard back, that was almost a year ago. I am pleased to hear that some other community leaders are agreeing to talk with you. It seems that some of the elected officials will only talk to you when they are campaigning. Keep up the good work!
Ouch, I've been in contact with the Prosecutor's Office on another issue with the same results. I guess I'm going to have to use a different method to get anything accomplished.
Keep going, Karen!
Prosecutor Lee Reberger contacted me via email and stated that he "poled" (polled) his office workers to see how many times I have called. His workers record one time. He also informed me that he "does return calls and has an open door policy. I take multiple drop in visits per day while not in court."
I returned Mr. Reberger's email with an apology for any miscommunication and assured him that I did indeed call several times and perhaps it was not one of his staff that received the calls. I once again extended my offer for a sit down interview to help educate the public on the plea agreements and the savings it offers our County.
As of today, March 8th, I have received no reply. I am sure I will receive one soon. I like to keep you updated on all changes and I hope this helps others to understand just how truly busy our Prosecutor and his staff are.

LOL, I've contacted the Prosecutor's Office 4 times by phone, twice by letter, and twice by letter since last November. I don't need an office poll to confirm these contacts as I keep my own records. After the phone calls that weren't returned and my first letter, I received a letter from the Prosecutor stating that he "didn't like the tone of my letter". Frankly, I thought that something had been "misplaced" within that office through no fault of his. Now, sixty days later, I'm beginning to wonder, seriously, if we do not have a problem within that office concerning dereliction of duty.
Update:
I just received another email from the Prosecutors Office offering me an interview in early April and I jumped at the offer! Stay tuned...the series continues. My apologies to Judge Trout, what a fantastic interview he gave and now it must be delayed for publish until mid April. I feel the need to keep thing sequential in the series as promised.
In the meantime, I have a few polls of my own to post. Stay with me please!
KM.
