Iain's National Night OutPosted Thursday, August 6, 2009, at 7:24 AM
First off, my son thinks Sheriff Mike Heaton is a wonder. It's not as if they have ever met prior. My son saw his picture in the paper one day and from then on, the uniform was the coolest thing ever. The wonderment in his eyes as Stoney Fisher picked him up and put him in the driver's seat of that fire truck was just so exciting to see. I was amazed how quickly and easily he took to Stoney as he had never met him before last night, but now, Stoney Fisher is Iain's buddy for life. Next he eyed two troopers at a table giving out stickers and he was just captivated by Troopers Todd Brown and J.R. Nicoson's uniforms and hats. These two humble and kind gentlemen were so gracious to allow Iain a picture with them that he could not wait to see the picture when we got home. He wanted me to "put it in the frame on my wall Mommy!" as he went to bed. As he drifted off to sleep he asked his Daddy and I all about how nice they were and how big they were. Now, I'm sure that if either Trooper has the time to read this, I should explain that this is in no way a comment on their weight. In your uniforms, you looked 10 feet tall and bulletproof to my little boy. He said, "Mommy, I am happy they will save us if bad people come in our house. I feel happy I know them now. (for moms out there, insert the usual toddler language here lol)" Finally, the night ended with him seeing Mike Heaton. Oh the look of confusion on his face when he realized that the man getting wet in the dunking booth was his beloved hero! As we initially passed the booth, Iain asked his Daddy why Sheriff Heaton wanted to be in water and won't his clothes get wet and then he would be in trouble with his Mommy? Lol. When Sheriff Heaton was out of the booth Iain was more confused than ever. There stood his hero, the big man he had to come to see standing there will flip flops on and royal blue Hawaiian swim trunks. He didn't know what to think and wasn't even sure that was Sheriff Heaton at all. I asked Mike if Iain could have his picture with him and he graciously agreed. On the way home however, he informed me that he felt bad for Sheriff Heaton because Mike was going to be in big trouble for getting his clothes all wet and not putting on dry one's before getting in the Sheriff's "cah". Lol. Many thanks to both Riddell and Terre Haute Savings Banks for providing the kid's so much fun in the jumping castle's as well. He so enjoyed his time in those! Watching the Officer's working with the dog Anya was a shock for him. We had to explain to him while he had his snack that it was okay for the doggy to bite the Officer like she did. He couldn't understand why the Officer's wanted the pretty doggy to bite when we reprimand our pup for biting. It was fascinating watching them run the course with those beautiful animals too. Our son ended his night getting the chance to dunk Police Chief David Archer in the dunking booth and loved every minute of it. We appreciate all of our Law Enforcement and Fire Department Personnel for taking time out of their busy schedules to give my child and all the children there the time of their lives! We here in Brazil love each and every one of you and know that when the time comes, our lives are safely in your hands! Stay tuned (and try to stay dry there Sheriff and Chief!).....
