Speed warning and driving safety tipsPosted Monday, March 30, 2009, at 11:16 AM
Springtime is upon us and people start driving faster.
Statistics show we have more severe accidents in good weather than in bad and the primary reason for this is SPEED. Many young people will also become first time drivers and, as family and friends, we need to take time to give positive inspiration on safe driving. Extra caution should be used this time of year as more people are out enjoying the weather bicycling, motorcycling, running, walking the dog, etc. Children can be very unpredictable in their actions when playing and many times they run directly in our path. Of course the roads are in bad shape from the winter months, and many times potholes can cause accidents along with many other road hazards. Keep in mind that springtime brings road maintenance projects and road crews will be out working along the roadways mowing and repairing those potholes. Clay City will have a major road project running through town starting in April on State Road 59, and it can be extremely dangerous for both you and the road workers if you speed. Also remember that speeding fines are doubled in construction zones. The warm weather brings new life, with all the plants and trees starting to grow. This can create blind spots that can obscure your vision at intersections and driveways. Drive safe, Terry L.
