My thoughts about our great countryPosted Friday, November 28, 2008, at 7:06 AM
The U.S.A is a great place to live and work and celebrate life. As Americans, we have
the freedom to choose our religion, our significant other and we have the opportunity to recieve an education as well as many other things that sometimes we take for granted. Being an american means living in cities, states, and socities that have all different kinds of ethnic and culteral background. We are taught from an early age what diversity means and we are taught that we should be proud to live in this country and fly our flags high and be thankful for all the oppurtunities we have and the freedom we are given. I as an American am thankful to all the people (men or women) who have paved the way for us today, the ones who have stood and stand now and fight for our rights as americans. Whether you agree or disagree on the war, it doesnt matter, what matters is supporting our troops and praying they get home safe and knowing in our hearts that they died protecting us the people of our great country. Many Americans know what it means to fly our flags at half staff. How many know what it means to fly our flags upside down? It means that our country is in distress. It is simply a distress signal. To some ( I am guessing many) the current state of the U.S is distressing. I know the holidays are here and now is a great time to remind your children to help others in need. Yes I am aware that most people arent making it as is, However if everyone donated one dollar or one canned good then we can make a difference. If you can afford more thats great, if not thats fine too. There are families all across our great country that are going hungry or worse. Now is the time to help others in need and not just because its the holidays but because we as Americans need to band together and support fellow americans especially in this tough economical situation. I as an American am glad I live in the land of the free and even though we have small gripes and complaints at least we have that right to speak and let our voices be heard and know that no matter what is going on in our life right now that we live in this great country and we have many things to be thankful for.
