MemoriesPosted Monday, December 8, 2008, at 12:29 PM
As I sit here, now I am reminded of happy (some funny) memories in my life from past and present.
Recently, my middle son, who is a tell-it-like-it-is child (he gets it from me, LOL) is into hunting because my husband is a hunter. Well, my son was in class and the teacher told him to color a picture of something he wants to do (a type of goal) and so he drew a picture of a deer after it had been hit with an arrow and when the teacher came over and looked, she said, "oh my," and my son replies, "you must be a bunny hugger." Now, my son did not mean anything by that at all. He simply overheard my family teasing me about that and him being in kindergarten, he repeated it. I love those little moments when kids say things they overhear parents saying and they usually are funny. However, some people don't find things kids say as funny as I do, but that's just the mom in me, I guess. As I sit here, I remember when I was a kid. It was close to the 4th of July and my brother (who loved to torture me) thought it would be funny to throw fireworks in our campfire. Me and my sister Merry had camped outside and of course, it was late and dark and the house doors were locked (accidently, so they say) and my brother and his accomplice threw fireworks into our fire and scared us to death. After dealing with that for a while, we attempted to get in and when that didn't work, we went and got in Merry's car. Keep in mind that she had a tiny car that did not accommodate two people (I think a VW Bug), but we slept in there all night. When I was growing up, my brother tortured me, but only because it was his way of making me tough and I am thankful that he did that, although I haven't had to use my duck-and-run skills in a while, but if I ever needed them, I hope they are still there. I have several brothers and sisters (special blended family situation). Some I am close to and some I am not, but they are living all over the place. Some in Terre Haute, Missouri, Staunton and places in between. Some of my fondest memories are holidays with my family. We usually have something at my house then make the rounds to my husband's, mom's house and his grandma and gpa's (there's tons of kids for my boys to play with there). And then we continue making rounds. Christmas is my favorite holiday because my kids can enjoy it now more than they could before. I love the holidays because my two oldest are out of school and I miss them being home. I love when hubby, my dad and the boys are here and we are just kickin' back and having family fun and making more memories for me to cherish in years to come.
