Holidays are a very special time for my family.
We love all the get-togethers and all the excitement of Santa visiting. My three boys love going and picking out presents for everyone and they could care less if they get stuff back from others. I have always taught them the joy of giving and that some people cannot afford to give back and they are OK with that. So, on top of everything else going on with one in public school and one in homeschool and then one at home who is getting ready to turn 3, I took my boys to Walmart to get our presents for extended family members and after an hour, we had picked out our selections and took them to check out and make our way to the car. Now, keep in mind, my middle boy (who I homeschool) is special needs. Usually, I have trouble when shopping because there are things he wants and it's usually an issue going to Walmart, but this time, it was a breeze. They are so excited that they can hardly wait. I don't keep the presents here until Christmas Eve night after they are in bed and then my husband brings them here and we put them under the tree and go to bed. I am assuming this year will be like the last and they will wake us up at the crack of dawn bubbling with excitement that Santa came and visited and ate the cookies or what they left for him (they have been known to leave cheese or money). I am now learning as the kids get older, the gifts cost more. I realize that with the economy, this is going to happen and it's part of life. However, I have very sweet and giving children and they have started making homemade Christmas craft ornaments with their picture for those people in our life that we don't buy presents for because my boys want everyone they know or meet to have something special for Christmas. I hope everyone gets out to see the pretty lights and everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. |
