Voodoo and Black MagicPosted Thursday, December 29, 2011, at 7:58 AM
For Heaven's sake, who ever you are, put away your Voodoo doll and give up the black magic.
Normally, at this time of year, we review our successes and make resolutions. Last year, I resolved, for the first time ever, to relax and have fun. Ha! What a joke!
I started the year with surgery to repair a torn meniscus in my knee.
I didn't even know I had a meniscus until I tore it.
In July and August, I was suffering from a nasty skin infection. In September, my appendix decided it had enough and demanded a separation.
Recently, I have been diagnosed with one inguinal hernia and a possible umbilical hernia. Surgery will likely be in February or March 2012.
I have a broken molar and a damaged filling that will most likely require two dental crowns. I have also been having moments of an electric-like nerve pain in my mouth. This probably means a root canal is in order. Despite decades of zealous brushing, my teeth have been a recurring trouble spot.
In July, for the first time, I had a criminal jury convict a client.
In the past year, my car went through three fuel filters and had an assortment of other irritating maladies.
My office sign has been destroyed twice this year.
As long as I am down, there is no reason why people shouldn't give me a few swift kicks. They kicked. But I dusted myself off and got back up.
There have been other "challenges" in 2011, but I think the point has been made.
What about the year ahead?
I am hoping to have my first year of intentionally having more fun and a little bit more relaxation. If that doesn't happen, I will be getting my own Voodoo doll.
I am not sure how to torment an unknown tormentor. However, I am sure that with enough black magic, it can be done.
Anyone know where to find a good witch doctor or where to get some eye of newt and toe of frog?
