  • Steve: I really don't want to rain on your parade but there are a few things you need to consider, seriously. The purchase of a property, like the one in your article, is the "least" of the expense. A grant may allow an organization to purchase a property, but where are the future funds coming from? Do you have any idea how much it cost to staff such a facility in addition to the upkeep of the building and property? What would the utilities, fire insurance, building, roof and grounds upkeep cost? Additionally, you mentioned selling off small pieces of the property (which would entail surveying and filing costs). As for renting out areas, again do you have any idea how much the liability insurance would be? I think projects like this would best be left to established organizations; maybe one of them would be interested in purchasing the property. Again, I don't want too but your fire out, just a reality check. CAB

  • Steve, On this subject I would only pray that clay county could figure out something. I am a recovering prescription addict. I never knew until I finally got out of the big cloud of the drugs. How there are a very large amount of people that be it drugs or alchol. It's a larger problem in this community then anyone can imagine. I doubt that if everyone being honest, anyone doesn't know someone with an addiction. And to have to go so far to an NA meeting is a big deterant to some peoples recovery. As for staff,I would assume that with regular testing it could be staffed by other recovering addicts. As they do in alot of the rehab's.It would be great and much needed,So you know for sure in this town something MUCH NEEDED is a PIPE DREAM! Sorry but being clean for 19 months makes me be honest to myself and others. It doesn't hurt to dream"And Wish".

  • WOW! Steve, that's a great idea for the facility, and it definitely is NEEDED in Brazil/Clay Co., but good luck with getting it approved......no matter how much the citizens recognize the serious problems that exist, I can almost guarantee there would be more negative votes than positive. However, it's still a GREAT IDEA!

  • Yes it would be expensive, but God is able to do far above all we ask and think.

  • It is obvious to see that you are not a doctor when you make statements such as, "I'm not a doctor, but I think that if recovering people diagnosed with diseases such as ADHD, Schizophrenia and various personality disorders would see those symptoms disappear if they would lay off the sauce and pills a while. Then they would learn that "earning" your money is much more rewarding than having it given to you." As someone with one of the above mentioned "diseases", I am extremely insulted by this statement. I hold a job and always have. I have never once received government assistance and have not strugged with a substance abuse problem. So the symptoms and struggles I endure on a daily basis are not absent even though I do not have a substance problem. Most of the medical/mental problems you mention are not problems that will be solved/cured in that manner. If someone had a substance abuse problem and was also diagnosed with the above mentioned issues, I'm sure it would improve their quality of life but am extremely doubtful that their symptoms would just magically disapear.

  • Neighbor79: You read wrong, my friend. You mentioned that you do NOT have a substance problem. Please re-read the sentence "I'm not a doctor, but I think that if recovering people diagnosed with diseases such as ADHD, Schizophrenia and various personality disorders would see those symptoms disappear if they would lay off the sauce and pills a while." The key word is "recovering". You are not included in that description. You truly have my heartfelt prayers. My step-son took his life while diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Trust me, I know it is real. However, I'm saying some physicians, not all, some merely dispense medications to cover true illnesses such as addiction.
