The Day I Stopped Showering
Posted Wednesday, February 22, at 2:19 PM
It was a normal day. I had decided to sleep in and very much enjoyed the luxury of it. I woke up and read my Bible, journaled and ate a breakfast of cereal. I picked out my clothes for the day and headed to the bathroom to shower. I did the normal routine -- I turned on the exhaust fan in the shower, let my hair down, placed my towels in the right spot and turned on the water. ...

Question Game: Best Compliment
Posted Monday, February 20, at 2:06 PM

If anyone out there reads my blogs, then you know I'm doing a series called the "Question Game," where I ask questions and answer them. Then, readers are supposed to comment with their answers, however, no one has left a single comment so far. Even though this isn't going the way I'd hoped, I'll ask the third question...

Question Game: Family
Posted Monday, February 13, at 12:15 PM

I have started a blog series called "The Question Game," where either a reader or I choose a question, and I answer it. I'd like readers to leave comments with their own answers to the questions. My last question was about recurring dreams. And this week's questions is .....

Question Game: Recurring Dreams
Posted Monday, February 6, at 5:34 PM

In college, my friends and I often played "The Question Game." It was one of my favorite games to play with a small group of friends or even just one other person. The Question Game is played by one person asking a personal or interesting question. All the players answer the question honestly, and then another question is asked. So I'm not sure it could be called a "game," since no one wins or loses and there is no competition involved...

Looking Back
Posted Tuesday, January 17, at 6:09 PM

I'm 22 years old. But only for one more week. Yep, that's right. My birthday is coming up in just 7 days. Guess what I'm doing for my birthday -- working! Woo! Welcome to adulthood, right? I don't expect anything exciting to happen this year, but that happens as you get older...

Word of the Year
Posted Monday, January 2, at 4:17 PM

Last year, instead of making a new year's resolution, I chose a word to represent my year of 2011. Last year, my word was "secure." I was looking for security and trying to say goodbye to all my insecurities. This year I wasn't sure what my word for 2012 should be or whether I should even have one. But after thinking about it a lot, I've decided my word for 2012 is "purpose."...

The Best Landlord
Posted Friday, December 9, at 2:17 PM

Right now, I am renting a house. And let me tell you, I have the very best landlord. First of all, my rent is cheaper than you'd ever imagine. My landlord understands my financial situation -- not making much money and yet raking in the bills. My landlord bought the house in pretty bad condition. He and his wife have been fixing it up slowly over the years...

Enjoying my Youth
Posted Monday, November 28, at 4:45 PM

Every Thanksgiving my family heads to Center Point to my great aunt's house for food and fellowship. I think we had around 60 people there this year. It was pretty crowded! All the ladies bring in their food -- vegetable trays, pies, salads and casseroles. All the men walk in and head to the living room to chat or watch the football game. All the kids run in to play with the toy tractors...

Let's Eat!
Posted Thursday, November 17, at 2:26 PM

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I am so excited! I can't wait to see my family, eat lots of good food, play games and prepare for Christmas. Just talking with my co-workers, I've noticed everyone has different foods they look forward to during the holidays. Let me share the foods I'm most looking forward to...

A Change of Perspective
Posted Friday, November 11, at 1:18 PM

Growing up, I never thought much about my country, my government, politics or the military. I said the pledge of allegiance. I stood for the National Anthem. I was thankful to live in America, land of the free. But I guess it never really sank in or meant a whole lot to me...

Halloween Traditions
Posted Tuesday, October 18, at 4:25 PM

When my mom and her siblings were much younger, they and the neighborhood children started a little Halloween competition. It all began when my grandmother (Ann Spelbring) built a dummy using old overalls and sat it on the porch. Some of my mom's friends stole the dummy and hid it at their house...

Top Five Fears
Posted Thursday, October 6, at 5:52 PM

Happy October! In honor of the month for scaring, I've created a list of my top fears. I decided to leave out the emotional fears -- things like failure or loved ones dying -- instead, I'm just focusing on physical fears. 5. Heights I've overcome this fear a little bit. As a camp counselor, I was trained on a high ropes course and that really helped me gain courage. However, I would still say this is a fear of mine. It's not like I want to lean over the edge of a 20-story building or anything!...

Happily Ever After
Posted Friday, September 16, at 4:29 PM

So often we picture our lives a certain way. Even from a young age, I was beginning to picture what job I would have someday, what my house would look like or how many kids I would have. As we get a little older, we start to see a timeline for our lives. I always thought I'd be engaged by 21 and by 23, I'd be starting my family. But here I am, almost 23, with neither of those things and definitely no where near starting a family...

Winds of Change
Posted Thursday, September 8, at 3:08 PM

This past weekend the temperature outside was hot, and my house was even hotter. I had all the fans on while I wore shorts and a T-shirt. Just a day later, the temperature outside was chilly, and my house was cold. I had turned the fans off and the heater on. I changed into my sweatpants and long-sleeved shirt, and I put long, fuzzy socks on my feet. I decided to bake cookies just so I could stand by the warm oven...

Holding on to Memories
Posted Friday, August 26, at 7:00 PM

School has begun -- from my little cousin entering kindergarten to my best friend starting classes for her last semester of college. I began school when I was just a 4-year-old playing with Barbie's. I entered preschool in Bowling Green with my grandparents as my teachers. All the other kids called them Mr. Paul and Mrs. Ann, but I stuck to Grandpa and Grandma...

Sunny Vacation
Posted Monday, August 15, at 2:36 PM

For the past week, I haven't been doing any writing for The Times. In fact, the only writing I've been doing was inside my personal journal as I looked out over the ocean. Yes, the ocean! I have been in Florida this past week on vacation with my boyfriend, Travis, and his family. I had a wonderful time and got a very nice tan...

Entering Adulthood
Posted Tuesday, August 2, at 4:48 PM

I've officially been a Times' reporter for more than a week now. I was surprised by how many people I talked to who mentioned seeing my photo in the paper or reading about my new position online. I felt a sense of pride as I agreed to being a part of this staff...
