I'm lost in "Lost"Posted Friday, December 28, 2012, at 11:20 AM
For the past few weeks I've been addicted to the TV show "Lost." I'd only watched a handful of "Lost" episodes when it was actually on TV from 2004-10, but lately I'd heard a lot of people talking about how exciting it is, so I decided to watch it straight through.
I started a few weeks ago, and I'm already in the third season. I've definitely become obsessed with it. If you've never heard of or seen "Lost," it's basically a show about a group of people who survive a plane crash and end up stranded on a deserted island. Or, at least they think it's deserted. They have to not only deal with surviving together, but they have to deal with avoiding capture from a group of Others: mysterious people on the island who threaten their safety. Every episode focuses on one of the characters' back-stories, and you begin to find that each person is more connected than they think. It's interesting to see the connections between the characters as their back-stories are told. For example, in one character's story, you see him eating at a diner where another character's mother is his waitress. And in another character's story, you see him in a house where, on the TV, another character is shown on the screen because of winning the lottery. Those small moments are what make the show really interesting to watch. Through the character's back-stories, I'm beginning to realize that no one on the island had what we would consider a typical life. One character spent time in a psych ward, another was a con man, another ran from the law, one was once paralyzed but was able to walk after the crash, another was in a popular band and struggled with drug abuse, one was a child soldier turned Catholic priest and one was an Iraqi soldier turned spy for the CIA. Each character's story is more interesting than the last. Like I said, I'm only just beginning the third season, so I still have awhile to go (there are six seasons altogether). I'm excited to see where it goes next. I'm excited to find out more about the Others, to see if there's a bigger meaning to them all being on the island, to figure out what the numbers mean, to see if any of the characters end up together and to see if they ever make it off the island. Have you ever seen "Lost?" If you've watched the show, please do not spoil the ending for me! |
