ISP: Sergeant Jim Cody Promoted to Lieutenant
Laboratory Division – Recently, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter announced the promotion of Sergeant Jim Cody to the rank of Lieutenant. In his new assignment, Lt. Cody will serve in the Indiana State Police Laboratory Division as the Crime Scene Investigation Section Commander.
Cody is a native of Parke County, Indiana and graduated from Rockville Jr. Sr. High School in 1988. After graduation, Cody went on to attend Indiana State University, where he obtained his bachelor's degree and graduated in 1997. While attending Indiana State University, Cody joined the Indiana National Guard, where he served from 1991 - 2001 as a helicopter mechanic.
On December 13, 1999, Cody graduated from the 58th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was appointed as a trooper assigned to the Lafayette Post. Cody primarily patrolled Fountain and Montgomery County until 2008, when he was promoted to a detective at the Lafayette District. In 2011, Cody was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served as a Crime Scene Investigator for the Laboratory Division out of the Lafayette and Putnamville Posts.
During Cody’s 22-year career, he has served as a Crash Reconstructionist, Firearms Instructor, and Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor. Cody also served with the Indiana State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, on the Tactical Intervention Platoon, and is currently an instructor at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and the Indiana State Police Recruit School.
Cody currently resides in Montgomery County.
