  • Reitz is a public high school.

It should also be mentioned, Tony Lewis played high school football locally as he prepped at South Putnam.

You have to admire a program that has sustained success and has created the community spirit that they have at Reitz. That doesn't occur everywhere and does not happen by accident or coincidence.

    Go Knights!

  • A former Evansville Reitz football player, Pat McCaffry, coached the only undefeated Brazil High School football team in history in 1958. That team was led by sophomore Tom Grisson, the state's leading scorer that year. In those days there was only one class in football.

Pat McCaffry's older brother, Forrest McCaffry, had great football teams at New Albany High School for years. Several of his boys played big time college ball, including Tom Hutchinson, who played at University of Kentucky and then was a first rounder of the Cleveland Browns in about 1960.

Pat and Forrest both played at Purdue after graduating from Reitz.

Pat left Brazil to coach Lafayette Jefferson High School where he had at least two unbeaten football teams.
