Reunited, Teeny and Goldie.
The story was in the Sept. 26 edition of The Brazil Times and put up online at the newspaper’s website the night before. Within hours of the posting a reader in Staunton contacted the editor by email:
“A friend of my daughter thought she had rescued a hen from the ATM. I’m wondering if it was Goldie? I have her at my house. She shares time at my neighbors as well. If you would let the people know, I’d gladly get her back home!”
I forwarded the email address to the McCullough family on Sept. 28th, and I’m happy to report an email last week confirmed that long-lost Goldie was reunited with Teeny.
“(We are) super excited,” Heather said. “We feel lucky someone saw the story and we were able to find her.”
In a murky world a simple story in the local newspaper reunited a sister and her brother with their pets. This small event shows the power of the written word and the goodness of people.
So, to paraphrase a famous joke: Why did the chicken cross the road to jump on top of an ATM? To get her family back and show us that Brazil, although it can be a weird place at times, has a caring community with a good heart.
