Root of All Evil?

I've been blogging on this site for almost a year now, and I admit, I have never truly enjoyed it. Yes there are times where my opinions have caused a bit of controversy or negative feedback, but I don't mind it because, after all, it is only one man's opinion. I was watching the new season of one of my favorite show's last night and blogging was one of the main points of conversation. Lewis Black's "Root of All Evil," on Comedy Central debated two topics each week to determine which is, of course, the root of all evil. The first-ever episode debated Oprah Vs. Christianity, while last night was Ultimate Figting Vs. Blogging. Comedian Patton Oswalt argued the case for blogging and along the way, discussed the sub-evil it created -- commenters. As always, it was a hilarious episode in which blogging won. However, Oswalt did bring up a good point. Most blogs are filled with garbled up, shortened language which can be hard to understand if you are not computer savvy. They usually turn into a medley of lol's, rotfl's, smiley emoticons and other abbreviations to minimize the amount of typing. At the same time, it also rips apart the English language to near caveman standards. While I like to think, and hope, that my blogs come across as somewhat intelligent and eloquent, I do enjoy seeing comments in the same manner because it lets me know that it is actually being read. Speaking for the newspaper, we do welcome and appreciate comments on our multitude of articles because it lets us know how we are doing, and occasionally, sparks an idea for another article, or to dig for more information on a particular story. So keep commenting on our articles and tune into Root of All Evil, Wednesday nights at 10:30 p.m. If nothing else, it is good for a few laughs. |
