Al Davis has officially gone off the deep end.

On Tuesday, the crazy Raiders' owner fired Head Coach Lane Kiffin after only 20 games into his professional coaching career.

This makes the third coaching change for the Raiders in the last two-and-a-half years.

It's gotten to the point that if a coach can't win immediately with the group of aging, overpaid players Davis provides, the coach is on the hot seat immediately.

To be honest, Davis really started slipping after trading away Jon Gruden to the Buccaneers in 2002. That trade backfired on him as the Bucs destroyed the Raiders 48-21 that season.

Ever since, the Raiders have been disappointing, winning no more than 5 games in a season.

This year, however, the team was starting to show some glimmers of hope, even with a 1-3 record to start the season.

After getting blown out by the Broncos in Week 1, they defeated the Chiefs and lost two close games to the Bills and Chargers late in the fourth quarter.

JaMarcus Russell has been steadily improving and looking more impressive as the running game has found its niche.

Needless to say, in a league full of surprises, the Raiders are only a couple of plays away from being 3-1 and being tied atop the AFC West with the rival Broncos.

The schedule was also in their favor with the Saints, Jets, Ravens, Falcons, Panthers, and Dolphins in the six weeks following the bye this week. None of those teams have been consistent this year and if Kiffin had been allowed to remain as head coach, I believe the Raiders had a decent chance of going into their Week 12 rematch with the Broncos with a winning record.

Alas, Davis has essentially flushed another season down the toilet with questionable decisions.

Davis has been quoted as saying he doesn't plan to retire until the Raiders win two more Super Bowls, but unless he shows a little faith in a coach that HE hires and lets them stick around more than 20 games, it won't happen until after one of his famous track suits decompose.

I never mentioned being a Raiders fan. I have always been a fan of the Colts and the Oilers, now Texans, who have been my hometown team. Overall, I am a football fan and was simply providing commentary on something I found interesting.
