Where are they now?

Every so often, I get a few minutes to surf the web and usually I seek out strange facts.
The other day, I decided to try to find out where a few of the college and professional athletes with a history in Indiana are up to today. * DAMON BAILEY A former basketball great at Indiana University, Bailey's career failed to take off due to injuries after being drafted by the Pacers in 1994. He did play in the CBA for a number of years before moving on to coach his high school alma mater, Bedford North Lawrence High School. He resigned after two seasons of coaching and now is the co-founder and co-owner of Hawkins Bailey Warehouse, Bedford. * JIM EVERETT This Purdue alum had a 12-season career in the NFL with three teams, but is possibly most famous for physically charging after ESPN host Jim Rome after repeatedly being referred to as "Chris" in reference to tennis player Chris Evert in 1994. After retiring in 1997, Everett settled in Southern California, received an MBA degree from Pepperdine University and started his own asset management business. He also spends some of his free time coaching children's football. * RIK SMITS The 7'4" Smits spent his entire NBA career with the Indiana Pacers, helping lead the team to its best success since the team's merger from the ABA. Since retiring, Smits has been devoting his time to collecting and racing motorcross motorcycles and is occasionally seen playing pick-up games near his home in Zionsville. |
