Clogging up the airwaves

Things are getting out of hand.
There have been far too many national political ads bombarding us this year. Yes, I understand it is a presidential election and it could potentially be historic, but it is a little much. The other day I was listening to the radio and decided to count how many political ads came up during the commercials of the morning show. In one half-hour period, 26 of the 33 ads were associated to candidates one way or another. The insane part of it was 17 of them were for one candidate, and it wasn't Obama or McCain! On the campaign trail, candidates scratch and claw for every vote they can get, which is expected, but in my mind that is overkill. I believe it is possible for candidates to cause voters to cast their ballot for the opponent by providing too much self-promotion. However, I am glad to see so many people get out to vote early and I hope it carries over to the day of the election. It can be disheartening to look at the results and see 30-40 percent of the eligible voters voice their opinion and elect candidates who may have a profound effect on the entire population for either two or four years. Even before I turned 18 and had the ability to vote, I have always enjoyed flipping channels, comparing numbers and seeing the various newscasts attempt to predict the winner with as low as 10 percent of the precincts reporting. I admit, it has been an exciting year of politicking, belittling, mudslinging and blunt honesty, but it will feel good to turn on the TV or radio Wednesday and not be bombarded with "I'm so-and-so, and I approve this message."
