T-minus 12 hours and countingPosted Friday, May 8, 2009, at 11:00 AM
The time is near. In just 12 short hours, I will have a completely new look. My beard will be gone and my hair will be much shorter, but I will still be the Mouth From The South. During tonight's Silent Auction during the 2009 American Cancer Society's Clay County Relay For Life event at the YMCA of Clay County, two lucky individuals will be able to cutoff my ponytail and shave off my beard. While there has only been one donation to this point, excitement has been building and people ask me about it wherever I go. I think the scissors and beard trimmer are even excited to be able to contribute to not just one, but two worthy causes. The ponytail will be donated to Locks of Love, while the money raised will go toward cancer research. To start the auction, the minimum bid to shave off my beard will be $20, while the starting bid for the ponytail will be $50, thanks to a gracious donation from Karen Meister. However, "Scalp the Mouth from the South" will not be the only excitement for the night. Along with many other items included in the Silent Auction (6:30-10:30 p.m.), the band P150 will be performing from 9:30-10:30 p.m., a Euchre tournament will be at 10:30 p.m., and many other fun and exciting events will take place. I hope to see as many people at the event as the building can hold, as well as lining United States 40 tomorrow afternoon for the Loyalty Day Parade. Maybe for fun, we could play a real life game of "Where's Waldo" and see if anyone can recognize me without a name tag. Much more fun to come
Just get them back on the field
Just another foot in the mouth
Starting from scratch for a greater cause

Chop Chop!!!
Wow one Donation your a popular guy!!
nobama222,
Apparently you don't know much about what this person did.
Relay is not a popularity contest by any means. So it doesn't matter if its one donation of a dollar or one for $50. How much did you raise and did you did raise the money, did you do it with a loving heart with a compassion for others? (From your response, if you were involved, I wonder about your personal motives.)
RELAY is about doing something, which just happens to be really fun, to help those fighting cancer to have hope.
I was at Relay and saw the crowd gather to watch "The Mouth" get scalped. Two people participated, one a nice young man still in school.
I also saw these same people a few hours earlier with tears in their eyes during the luminary celebration.
And although you have been CATTY in your response, I think the same people with this spirit would invite you to join them next year.
That is the spirit of Relay.
First of all, thank you "Cy" for calling my son a nice young man. It is nice to see so many youth involved in such a giving event.
Secondly, I want to say thanks to people like Jason who set such a fine example for our youth.
It is however a shame that same young man was attacked on the way to his car after the event. Brazil's finest showed up right away after called. It is just terrible to think that your son is at an event to raise funds for cancer research and that the streets aren't safe enough for him to walk the four blocks back to his car. Those boys know who they are. They will be punished.
Just in case you read this, I want to thank the adults at the YMCA who assisted him in calling the police and making him feel safe once again.
