Alone in "purge"atory?Posted Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at 11:15 PM
I may be in some unique company.
About a week-and-a-half ago, I was starting to get a chest cold and was a little under the weather when I was in Terre Haute running a couple errands when I smelled that wonderful smell that you either lover or hate. The unique aroma of White Castle "Slyders." As usual, I could not resist the urge to stop in and grab a six sack, but this time it proved to be my downfall. A few hours after enjoying the burgers, I began to get the ever-famous "gut bomb." I thought my body would go through the usual protocols to process the sandwiches, and while I was right about that, I was wrong about the direction they would travel. Needless to say I caught the what I now call the "White Castle Flu," as it was the final straw in kick-starting the stomach bug I had managed to avoid while it had been passed around the house the past few months. While I stayed in my recliner during the following weekend, I began to think and wonder if I am one of the few, if not the only person, who has involuntarily purged hamburgers from both White Castle and Eddie's. As you may recall, this past summer I attempted to not only make the Eddie's Hall of Fame by eating at least 20 burgers in one sitting, but also to break the record at the time of 31 (I'm not sure if that mark still stands). I achieved the first goal, but was only able to make it through 24.5 before my stomach said "no más." However, my recent weekend "purge"atory will not keep me from consuming burgers from either restaurant -- both are just too good -- but I think I will make sure to take stock into how my body is acting before enjoying because just the one tasting is good enough for me. |
