Wishing for technicolorPosted Monday, February 15, 2010, at 4:28 PM
Who wouldn't love a little pink or purple snow?
I never hoped for a blizzard or anything like that. Just enough to stick to the ground so my friends and I could have a snowball fight. Luckily, I got my wish before I moved up here. However, in my fourth real winter since moving here, I think I've had my fill. There are times where there is too much white on the ground and gray in the sky, it makes it tough to get motivated enough to get out of bed some days. One of my favorite comedians, Lewis Black, described the feeling I'm sure many of us have at least once each winter by saying, "Then you wake up and it's the greyest day you've ever seen! And the next day, it's even greyer! And that's usually Valentine's Day, and that's the day you look at your wrists and go, 'Hey, maybe I should slit 'em to see color!'" Not that I would take things to that extreme, but a little color would be nice. On many occasions growing up, the sunset would be a varying range of colors thanks to the chemical plants in the area around my home. I think it would be neat to see the snow fall in a different color from time to time just to mix things up from the monotonous monotones of gray and white. I don't think there is a child out there who would get excited over seeing snow that is orange, purple or some neon color. But sadly, we're stuck with what we have, so all we can do is wait it out before the bright colors of spring return. So much for my magic training. |
