Ready for some football?

Not quite yet.

Sure, I love a Sunday NFL game like anyone else, but I'm not really ready for it quite yet.

Major League Baseball is in full-swing and I would prefer to keep watching baseball.

But as with most sports fanatics, I start watching football as quickly as the season starts.

I have been a Cincinnati Reds fan for as long as I remember. And 'my' Reds have every opportunity to play a spoiler in the run for the pennants.

The Reds are only 12 games under .500 after playing sub-.500 ball for the entire season. Now, however, after more than 120 games, Cincy has decided to get it going.

Ken Griffey Jr. is close to 600 homers. Adam Dunn is hitting the ball well. The Reds' pitching, the problem for the team all year, is finally starting to come around.

Brandon Arroyo is pitching like he did last year and Aaron Harang is looking like a bonifide ace.

Sure, the Cubs, Brewers and Cardinals are all within striking distance of the pennant. But the Reds are in fourth.

If they could only beat the pesky Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Reds seem to play strong against all other teams. And yet, they get clobbered by the Pirates in two Tuesday evening.

So sad, so sad, so sad indeed.

Oh well.

But I digress. Let's get back to football.

I've never been a big Colts fan. Not real concerned if they ever left, although I'm happy Peyton Manning FINALLY won a Super Bowl.

Maybe now, critics will get off his back.

Still, I've been a Minnesota Vikings for as long as I can remember.

I love the "Purple People Eaters."

Now you see where I'm getting at.

'My' Vikings have no real chance of getting to the Super Bowl this year, let alone win it.

I'm also a Pacers fan, but that will have to wait. I just can't believe what Larry Bird has allowed the Pacers to become.

Still, I realize the Vikings have no prayer for the playoffs either.

So I'm rooting for 'my' Reds to make some noise and keep someone out of the playoffs.

Us fans can always dream.
