A bad idea?

I'm experiencing a first right now.

I've never been really big in joining fantasy leagues in the past. When I covered sports, I joined a fantasy baseball league and just couldn't figure it out.

However, this year, I joined a football fantasy league with some people at work.

And my team stinks!

The automated draft pretty much laid out how bad this season could be for me in the realm of fantasy.

I drafted only one quarterback, who is a rookie and hasn't even played a down yet.

I managed to draft Brady Quinn in the draft, but with the play of Derek Anderson last week, Quinn might not see the field for another couple of weeks.

The funny thing was, in the first week, with a rookie quarterback who was third string, I had to go on the waiver wire to pick up a quarterback.

I chose Charlie Frye.

Bad decision.

Frye lasted all of one quarter and I lost points at the quarterback position.

Despite my grumblings about fantasy quarterbacks, I do have a good crop of running backs, led by Stephen Jackson.

However, none of my running backs are doing as well as they have in the past regarding fantasy leagues.

Score another point for me. Hmm.

However, I do have Clinton Portis and Thomas Jones, both adequate backs who have provided points so far.

I have Lee Evans on my roster. The Buffalo wide receiver is considered one of the best in the league. And yet, I've got one point to my fantasy totals from him in two games.

Score another point for me.

I did pick up David Garrard off the waiver wire last week and he may do well for me.

I also have both the Chicago Bears defense and San Diego defense. Both defenses are getting me decent points, except the Chargers cost me three points last week against New England.

The bottom line is, I picked up the short stick before the season officially began.

It sure is easier to watch the games on television rather than cheecking points on the Internet.
