Random thoughts

So, most of us have had enough time now to get over Super Bowl 41 1/2 as the Patriots knocked off the Colts, 24-20, Sunday.

Indianapolis had its chances, leading by 10 points with only eight minutes left in regulation.

But New England's hero, Tom Brady, delivered in the clutch, tossing two touchdowns to give the Patriots the victory.

But what about the aftermath?

There was a report that surfaced right after the game that the New England brass had asked the NFL to look into the possibility that the Colts had pumped in fake crowd noise during the game.

In fact, a video surfaced on youtube late Sunday evening, "proving" that fake crowd noise was used.

I checked out the video and can say I don't think that's accurate.

Late in the game, right after Randy Moss caught a pass at midfield from Brady, there appeared to be a skipping sound during the broadcast.

Officials with the Patriots immediately asked the NFL to check this out following the game. The NFL did and made a statement as soon as possible.

On Monday, the NFL issued a statement, saying the sounds were actually created by the CBS production crew, not the Colts.

In fact, CBS admitted the problem was its fault.

So, this is to all Patriots fans.

Shut up.

I don't like the Colts. Never have been a fan. Never will.

But for goodness sakes, shut up. You won the game. Your team is undefeated and looks like it will continue to roll through teams the rest of the season.

So let it go. Continue to bask in the glory of Brady, Moss and company.

Actually, there was even more controversy following Sunday's game.

Immediately after the fourth quarter ended, both coaches, Tony Dungy and Bill Belichick, headed toward midfield for the tradtional handshake.

A picture printed in Monday's Indianapolis Star said it all.

Belichick, gloomy as ever, appeared to just walk by as if he could care less that his team had just won the game.

A quick glance at his press conference following the game would tell any fan that was just it. He didn't care. He just wanted to win.

However, it's just distasteful.

Belichick is a goon. A jerk.

Dungy appears to be a class act. Granted, I've never been in a situation to interview the man, but when he appears on television during press conferences, he seems like a good person.

Belichick, on the other hand, is a goon. He's just a jerk. Plain and simple.

Yet, he knows how to win. And he's a proven winner.

But he's still classless. A hoodie-wearing jerk.

I personally believe the Patriots have what it takes to go undefeated and finally end this pathetic champagne toasting 1972 Miami Dolphins tradition.

The '72 Dolphins were the last team to go through an entire NFL season with an undefeated record. Every year, players from that team get together and toast the last undefeated team that has lost.

This year's Patriots squad is very capable of accomplishing that, ending this ignorant tradition.

It's possible the champagne cork will remain in the bottle this year.
