So long. Farewell.

So, I woke up Monday morning and learned that a comic icon had died.

George Carlin passed away Sunday evening. He was 71.

He had a history of heart problems and was admitted to the St. John's Health Center Sunday after complaining of chest pain. He died later Sunday evening.

I have always been a fan of Carlin. His comedy was spectacular.

I don't think I'll goes as far as to say he was a genius, but he was funny.

He was funny to listen to. He was funny to watch. He was just funny.

The sarcasm he injected into his work was what made him funny.

Sure, there are other comedians that are funnier. Sure, there are other comedians that made you laugh at practically everything they said.

But with Carlin, you had to think about what he was saying. About where he was going with his joke.

And that's what made him interesting.

It could take a few seconds, but after he said something -- and was already on the way to something completely different -- you'd start laughing.

You always had to catch up with what he was working on.

Again, that's what made him funny.

That's what made him unique.

I could always forgive him for taking a role in the Bill and Ted series of films. Most people could.

He wasn't about acting. Although he did it and he did it well.

But his standup will always be remembered.

Take for example, "The seven words you can't say on TV."

Sure, you may not remember all seven, but I be you remember the comedy bit.

And I bet most people will remember Carlin.
