Ramble on

Posted Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at 10:39 AM

Sometimes, when I'm here in the office and trying to think of things to blog about, my mind runs about 1,000 mph.

Everything under the sun seems to find a way into the hollow space in my head, seeping its way through the cracks.

With that in mind (no pun intended), I've elected to ramble a bit about what ever is on the tip of the tongue.

So here goes ...

Interesting that it took such a devastating hurricane (remember Katrina?) to get the government's attention. Now, everybody is on top of things, scrambling like Fran Tarkenton did so well back in the 1970s in the hallowed purple.

Speaking of the Minnesota Vikings, I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. I don't remember the Tarkenton days, but I sure do remember Tommy Kramer, Les Steckel, Bud Grant, Wade Wilson, Rich Gannon, the horrible Herschel Walker trade, etc.

What I don't remember is watching a team that has so much potential. Potential to tease, that is.

My favorite squad. My lovable Vikings. They're righting the ship. No more hoopla about weird boat parties, etc.

But I have a sneaky feeling that the Vikes are going to be on the losing end of several three- and four-point losses.

Oh well, there's always next year. But I'm quite certain die-hards have been saying that for the past 40 years.

A founding member of Pink Floyd died Monday.

Richard Wright, keyboardist for the band, died of cancer at the age of 65.

Floyd had a great run in the 70s. I never really listened to a lot of their music, and still don't.

Still, it's sad.

When is this economy going to head up? Really, enough said. Maybe it's time to put the money in a shoe box and stuff it under the bed.

Haven't we witnessed enough flooding?

Horrid rains from the remnants of Hurricane Ike swamped Indiana Sunday. Lanes on Interstate 80/94 near Munster were closed due to flooding.

We can wish for rain, but hopefully, it comes in moderation.

Hopefully.
