World War III didn't take place and my Vikings won!

My fiancee and I attended the first preseason game of the 2009 NFL season at Lucas Oil Stadium Friday evening as my beloved Minnesota Vikings faced the Indianapolis Colts.

Yes, I'm aware it's only preseason but my team won the game.

It was the first time I have seen the Vikings play in person. And it was cool.

We sat surrounded by Colts fans. I was in a sea of blue and stuck out like a sore thumb in my Adrian Peterson jersey.

There was a Vikings' fan several rows in front of us who kept jumping up when Minnesota did something well. And, as usual, there were fans sitting behind us giving him a rough time. But he seemed to take it in stride.

I got booed one time as we sat in a parking lot waiting for the game.

But I took it in stride.

And I think I'll take today in stride as well.

She and I are going to the Indiana State Fair. And we will take time to see some of the exhibits among other items.

I'm quite certain fried food will be consumed at some point.

But later in the evening, our Saturday will not be about the state fair at all.

It will be about country music.

She purchased tickets to see Keith Urban live at the fair today and it should be exciting.

Although I think Urban is masked as a country artist (his music is more pop than anything), he is an excellent guitar player and a very good singer. I know I'll have a good time watching him perform.

As for the opener, I can't even remember his name, but it's possible I won't enjoy that set.

I can only stomach a certain amount of country music in one setting.

Sure, I grew up listening to Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, etc.

My grandparents loved country music. Jennings was my grandmother's favorite artist of all time (even more so than Elvis).

My mom fell into the trappings that were the Oak Ridge Boys in the early 80s. I remember hearing "Elvira," in the house several times. My sister and I thought the song was funny, especially the bass singer's voice. She could never stop laughing at that.

But I've always been more of a rock guy. I like it.

As I said before, I can only stomach a certain amount of country.

Stay tuned. The antacid pills may be used frequently Saturday evening.
