Memo to vandals: Please stop

Posted Thursday, April 1, 2010, at 10:40 AM

It just doesn't seem right, does it?

In 1971, the Osmonds struck gold with their chart-topping number, "One Bad Apple."

The song, off the album, "Osmonds," also reached No. 1 in Canada.

The song seems rather fitting for the moment, especially with the recent transgressions taking place in Forest Park.

In recent weeks, vandalism has taken place in the park. First, it was the breaking of windows.

Now, it's graffiti on bathroom walls.

Brazil Park Board President Ruthann Jeffries is up in arms, not quite sure why this would take place.

I feel the same way, but I have a hunch.

These people who have elected to take part in the destruction of property apparently have nothing better to do.

And that's a shame.

I don't want to point fingers at anybody or any age group, but this is just disgraceful.

I hope you are proud of what you have accomplished, which is essentially nothing.

You have taken time out of your day to destroy a part of the city that is beautiful.

People from all over the area enjoy time spent in the park.

It really is a wonderful thing to have.

And yet, a few bad -- or is it rotten -- apples have decided to spoil the whole bunch.

Don't you have something better to do with your time?

It seems to me just taking a walk around the park might be a better thing to do with time during the day, rather than deliberately taking a spray-paint can and painting graffiti on a wall.

Or breaking out some windows.

Because of this, you are the lowest common denominator.

Try being a little more productive with your time.

Ride a bicycle around town. Take a walk. Play a video game.

Just don't destroy property.

Rather, take some pride in your community.

If you have any pride left.

There has never been a time in the history of the world where there has been more things to do for kids, this is simply a choice that certain individuals have made to be destructive. There is no other justification for this other than this was a conscious choice that was made. There are no other excuses.

If the responsible parties are ever discovered, they should be made examples of and have some serious punishment by the legal system. But they won't get caught, which is very disappointing.
