I'm .... Batman?

Posted Thursday, September 9, 2010, at 6:33 AM

Update: In my haste to put this blog together Wednesday morning, I forgot to add Adam West's name at the bottom. Sorry about that Mr. West. You were the first.

It was Aug. 9. I had just come home and was ready to turn in for a good night's sleep.

Only a matter of hours later, Merry woke me, alerting me that one of our dogs was barking differently than usual.

I stammered into the room where the dogs sleep, turned on the lights and told the dog to be quiet.

From there, I went back to bed.

I woke up the next morning to see a bat lying by their food dishes.

It took a few minutes, but eventually, the bat was escorted back outside.

Flash-forward to Sept. 7.

I come home and I'm ready to turn in for a good night's sleep.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Wednesday morning, I wake up because I hear pattering by the bedroom windows.

At first, I didn't think much about it.

But something didn't feel right.

I immediately turned to Merry and told her there was a good possibility that something was in the bedroom.

Needless to say, she was not pleased.

I turned on the lights and after a few minutes, yep, there it was, another bat.

Somehow, another bat found its way into our home. Only this time, it was in the bedroom, hovering above us as we slept.

It had taken refuge behind a quilt above the bed.

After moving the quilt, the bat dropped to the floor and was underneath the bed.

How am I going to get this creature out of our bedroom?

It finally flew behind one of the curtains.

I grabbed a towel and flicked the curtain.

From there, the bat decided it was going into stealth mode.

It flew from one side of the room to the next. All the while, I'm attempting to either catch it or swat it.

Swatting seemed like the right thing to do as it moved ever so close to my face.

Mind you, I'm not the most attractive man in the world, but having a bat on my noggin didn't sound like a great idea.

I knocked it across the room with the towel and found it behind the television, picked it up and tossed it outside.

Finally, I thought. I can get some sleep.

The adventure of Tuesday night, Wednesday morning is over.

I guess you can say I have something in common now with Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney and Christian Bale.

Call me, Batman?
