A protest? Really?

It seems to me that some people have way too much time on their hands.

It was announced Thursday that the Westboro Baptist Church, based in Kansas, planned to protest the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards, scheduled for Saturday.

This church has conducted protests at funerals for military servicemen, theatrical productions and high school graduations, among other events.

In a press release, the church stated, "Mrs. Edwards insisted upon being summoned before the King of Eternity while her children are yet minors. She insisted upon her son's death, an unremitting disease raging in her body, a whorish husband bringing their family to open shame and now her death and final judgment."

Elizabeth Edwards died Tuesday after a six-year battle with breast cancer. She was 61.

She is survived by her husband, John Edwards, daughters Cate and Emma Clare, and son Jack.

Son Wade Edwards died 14 years ago in an automobile accident.

She will be buried next to him.

There is a serious problem, in my humble opinion, when people feel the need to protest such a moment.

The burying of a family member.

Why on earth would someone feel that is necessary?

I can't help but think of the movie, "PCU," where practically all the college students on campus spent every waking moment protesting everything under the sun and -- ironically -- forgot how to have a little bit of fun every now and then.

Forgive me, but who gave these people the right to judge anyone?

I always thought that was somebody else's job.

Sure, it's true. Her husband had an affair, which should not be condoned.

But in this family's time of tragedy and need, let them deal with it privately, in their own way.

Don't protest something so sacred.

Surely there's something on television you can watch. Maybe time to clean the yard? Put up Christmas decorations?

Spend time with your own family? Your own mother?

Let it be.

Around the turn of the prior century, in the midst of the industrial revolution, many social needs existed that were not being met. These were not met by family, community or government. Some well meaning church people, who had generally limited themselves to the spiritual welfare of their fellow man first and foremost and his physical needs secondarily, especially if they were members of the church, took it upon themselves to care for the "whole-man." The whole-man or social gospel soon swept through the religious community, and it prevails today. It's so much easier to feed someone a bowl of soup or a chicken dinner than it is to feed them life changing principles in Jesus Christ. Plus, its fun, ruffles very few feathers and makes much better press. Problem is, nobody is deeply changed by it. This fake "church" is Kansas bears no resemblance to the soul saving and soul nourishing habor that Jesus intended. However, they are a next step in the apostacy away from the true church. If we don't teach Jesus, if we do serve soup, provide entertainment and recreation - all in the name of Jesus - why can't we be activists in His name? One step leads to the next. Sad - and they call themselves a church!

Conservative Dad: So true. We have our own brand of extremism in the Christian faith as the Muslims do in their faith. Breeds prejudice and hatred. I'll bet the Taliban holds that group up as fuel to enlist ignorant "soldiers" for their cause.

Whether this so called Christian sect or extremists of another religious group, they have nothing to do with God.

The real sad things is that this group proclaims to be a "Christian" Church. That gives the name "Christian" a black eye. It will just be an excuse for an atheist to use to justify the existence of God, or the lack thereof. Too bad. I don't like burning the flag either. But we either have a free nation or we don't. I heard a saying once, "just because you have the right to do something, does not make it right to do it."

I've said this before and I'll say it again, the media needs to STOP giving these disgusting wastes of needed oxygen exposure. They are no better than any of the many other attention whores you see on tv today. Stop giving them attention and they will more than likely go away or atleast do something even dumber and finally be prosecuted for it like they should be.
