Oscar Yawn

Did you watch? Me neither.

This particular awards show has never really been all that appealing to me and I'm not sure why.

Several awards were given out during the broadcast. But I have always believed this awards show could be whittled down to the awards people are interested in, which, in my opinion, including the following:

* Best Picture,

* Best Actor,

* Best Actress,

* Best Supporting Actor,

* Best Supporting Actress, and (maybe)

* Best Director.

As far as the remaining awards ... let's move on.

"The King's Speech" won Best Picture this year and the film's lead, Colin Firth, took home Best Actor.

The Best Actress award went to Natalie Portman for "Black Swan," while Christian Bale won Best Supporting Actor for "The Fighter." In addition, Melissa Leo captured Best Supporting Actress for "The Fighter," while Tom Hooper won Best Director for "The King's Speech."

"The King's Speech" was up against some heavy competition, including "Black Swan," "The Fighter," "Inception," "The Kids Are All Right," "127 Hours," "The Social Network," "Toy Story 3," "True Grit," and "Winter's Bone."

Perhaps "heavy" is the wrong word in that sentence.

Again, please remember, this is my opinion only, but I'm quite certain out of all those movies, I'll end up watching maybe five.

We've already rented "Inception," which I didn't find all that amazing.

I am looking forward to seeing "127 Hours," and I know James David will love "Toy Story 3."

Although I'm not sure I want to see them, we'll probably end up watching both "The Social Network," and "True Grit."

As far as the remaining films? Not interested.

In regard to Best Actor, Firth won and was up against Javier Bardem, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg and James Franco. In the Best Actress category, Portman faces Annette Bening, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence and Michelle Williams, while in the Best Supporting Actress category, Leo was pitted against Amy Adams, Helena Bonham Carter, Hailee Steinfeld and Jacki Weaver. Bale faced John Hawkes, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Geoffrey Rush in the Best Supporting Actor category while Hooper was up against Darren Aronofsky, David O. Russell, David Fincher and Joel and Ethan Coen in the Best Director category.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, "yawn." And that is why this awards show has never appealed to me at least.

At lest Randy Newman picked up his second award.

He won Best Original Song for "We Belong Together," from "Toy Story 3."

This was Newman's second award after winning for "If I Didn't Have You," from Monsters, Inc.," in 2002.

Newman has been nominated for Best Original Song, Best Original Score, and Best Musical or Comedy Score, 19 times.

I also found it interesting that Trent Reznor won an Oscar Sunday for Best Original Score in "The Social Network."

Reznor -- long known for his work as Nine Inch Nails -- teamed with Atticus Ross for the score.

Even though my interest in this awards show, for the most part, is not there, I still figured you might want to check out the winners from the event. Below is that list.
