Looking forward to Sunday

This Sunday is Father's Day and I hope to spend the majority of the day with my father and family.

We'll travel to Spencer Sunday for an afternoon of grilled food and conversation.

James David will get to see his grandparents, aunt and uncle and cousins.

He'll miss seeing my grandfather, who is scheduled to have surgery this week and probably won't be able to make it Sunday.

In the past, Mother's Day and Father's Day were Sundays of time spent at my grandparents' home.

But things change.

I don't remember all those holidays, but I know that, as a family, we always had a good time together.

And I'm sure Sunday will be the same.

My father has always been a great role model, a very hard-working man who has always tried his hardest to take care of his family.

I remember he had to work so much.

But he always found a way to make to athletic events my sister and I participated in.

James David is only 8-months-old. He obviously hasn't decided if he has an interest in extra-curricular activities yet.

But if he does, and he decides he wants to take part in baseball, basketball, swimming, golf, tennis, or any other activity, I'll always try to make it to all of them.

He started swimming lessons Monday. Merry signed him up for the lessons earlier this year.

If I can, I hope to drive over sometimes to see him in action.

It's what my father would have done.
