The ups and downs

This Thursday will mark yet another milestone for me.

On June 30, 2010, Merry and I were united in marriage.

Only a handful of months later, we witnessed the birth of our son, James David.

Now, we've reached the one-year anniversary.

Marriage sure does have its ups and downs.

Nobody and nothing is perfect. But you can wish it was.

Just the other day, I was joking with Merry about television and marriage.

Think about all the shows that were on when we were children. How everything seemed perfect?

Wow. Wouldn't that be great?

Doesn't work that way.

There are a lot of ups and a lot of downs. Lots of disagreements. Lots of adore. Lots of love.

The ups and downs are what make life as great as it is.

For the longest time, I believed the glass was half empty.

Then I met Merry. The glass was actually half-full all along. I just didn't see it that way.

Then, James David came along.

Maybe that glass is full after all.

While I have to work Thursday evening, I plan to spend Wednesday evening with my family, thinking about the past year and how blessed I truly am.

I couldn't ask for anything more.
