Disgusting ... no wait, despicable is more like itPosted Thursday, October 4, 2012, at 12:17 PM
Someone really needs to explain this.
On Thursday, the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees were announced. The list includes hold over nominees Randy Newman, Donna Summer, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Kraftwerk and The Meters. New nominees include Public Enemy, N.W.A., Rush, Deep Purple, Albert King, The Marvelettes and Procol Harum. When I saw the list, I was pleased to see several of these names. For example, Heart, Rush, Deep Purple and Procol Harum all are good nominees. I was a bit surprised by some of the nominees. But mostly, I am very perplexed by some of the continued snubs. As a child, I thought the band Kiss was the greatest thing ever. I was so intrigued by their entertainment. Since they began their career, Kiss has achieved close to 30 gold albums. Several of those albums went platinum. The band has also had six top 20 singles Yet, they continue to be overlooked. Growing up, it was typical for my father to put a Moody Blues album on the record player and spin it while my mother was out shopping. Since 1964, The Moody Blues have had close to 15 gold albums -- several of which were platinum -- and six top 20 singles. Yet, they continue to be overlooked. But here is the strangest one of all. As a child, I grew up listening to a wide variety of music. I mentioned Kiss and the Moody Blues, but the Beach Boys, Donna Summer, the Bee Gees, Grand Funk Railroad, the list goes on and on. And the list included the rock band Chicago. The band Chicago released its first album in 1969 under the name Chicago Transit Authority. It went platinum. In fact, the band's first 12 releases went platinum. In 1979, the band released Chicago 13, which went gold. The band's next two efforts did not reach that status, but in 1982, it released Chicago 16, which again went platinum. After that, the band's next four albums went platinum. Since a greatest hits release in 1989, Chicago has released a total of 14 albums, three of which went gold and another -- The Very Best Of: Only the Beginning -- which went platinum. Since 1969, Chicago has released more than 40 albums. And that's not the whole story. Since 1969, Chicago has released 63 charting singles, of which 29 were top 20 singles. Of those 29 top 20 singles, 19 were top 10 singles. Of those 19 singles, 13 were top 5 singles. Of those 13, three, "If You Leave Me Now," "Hard To Say I'm Sorry," and "Look Away," all went No. 1. And yet, they continue to be overlooked. This band continues to be overlooked by this amazing panel of judges who nominate for this hallowed hall each and every year. There really is only one question left to ask: Why? Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Rush is #3 in all time sales. They were snubbed for years. Being an avid Rush fan, I hope if they do get in that they tell them to stick it. Rush does not need RRHOF to do anything for their careers. (they are all in their 60's)I went there once several years ago. Rush was playing on the loud speakers. But the only thing there, was a pair of Neil's sticks in a collection. I won't EVER go back.
Still the rock and roll hall of shame.
Does a band have to be retired to be in the RRHOF? If so KISS will never get nominated because they will never retire.
Chicago and Summer only decent in your "list" but at least we are hearing about something besides kids first steps, first tooth, first word...several children in Brazil just like that. I'm sure a lot of Mom & Dads (like myself) think their kid is the smartest...mine not be the smartest but he could read at 3 years; was on freshman reading level at 5. begin reading Steven King's Dead Zone at 8. He started ISU at 15. He did all this w/o his Dad, but by choice...a murderer made sure of that. So continue on with your idea of music...better than a kld who means nothing to us, not like some of the terminally ill we have in Brazil. Maybe we all need to write about our children, would give us a paper...lol
sorry, made a mistake,,,,his reading level was on that as freshmen in high school when he was in second grade...he as 7 yrs old.
OK, Rush made it this time. If I was them, I would tell them to stick it. April 18 is the official ceremony.
