Most Wonderful Time of the Year

It's the most wonderful time of the year for sports fans (well, second behind March Madness). Football on all levels is in full swing, baseball playoffs are heated, hockey has finally begun, and all of the basketball court cases are reaching verdicts.
This weekend, Saturday is being called "Gut-Check-Saturday" in response to last weekend's "Guillotine Saturday." After watching so many ranked teams fall, I'm waiting for the other blade to drop.
The Florida Gators play #1 ranked LSU. Call me a Gator-hater, but I think the Tigers are going to win this one. I don't care how much pride Urban Meyer needs to recoup after his captain got arrested and his team lost to Auburn.
Number 2 is USC, those preppy pretty boys. They're facing off against everyone's favorite tree, Stanford (sorry, ISU). And the Cardinal's defense is just as wooden as it sounds. I don't see the Trojans taking a hit in the loss column, either.
Cal is off this week, resting up for the Oregon State Beavers next week. I'm sure everyone at "Berserkly" is wisely using their weekend off to finish their doctoral thesis. So they escape the chopping block this time.
Here's where it gets interesting -- the parity of the Big Ten. Ohio State, ranked number 4, plays a pretty hot Purdue team, and the game is in West Lafayette. I'm thinking that Purdue may just ride the gravy train one more weekend, and the Buckeyes will be the victim.
Every expert's sexy upset pick is an upstart Illini over number 5 Wisconsin. The talking heads are passing the longest winning streak in the nation to give the victory to Chief Illinewek. I'm sorry, but Bucky will prevail. I don't care who Lee Corso and the rest of the "College Game Day" crew pick. Guys named "Juice" don't impress the Cheeseheads.
All sarcasm aside, I'm thrilled to watch the playoffs and football this weekend. I wish I could watch some hockey, but that's another rant for another day. Enjoy the beautiful weather!
Monday Update: Open mouth, insert foot. I just personally had a horrible sports weekend. And gosh does that humble pie taste bitter. So I'm going to stay away from sports forecasting for now. But I still say that Wisconsin should've won! Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

You got your wish. LSU beat Florida in the last few seconds. I agree LSU is a better team, but Gator fans are faithful and will live to fight again.
I'm a old Indiana fan, but have lived here for many years. Born and raised in Parke and Clay county.
Funny how your sarcasm came back to bit you in the butt. You only got one pick right!
