A Few Key Words

Currently, I'm working on a series of articles about the state of security in the school corporation. It's a delicate subject, and it's heavy on everyone's mind. But there are a few points that I want to make about the articles that I've discovered while researching the topic.

First of all, there have been some keywords that everyone keeps saying in terms of school security: communication, cooperation and priorities.

Those words, I feel, describe perfectly the areas where maybe things haven't gone so well for the current state of security.

This isn't to say that there aren't improvements made every day.

Communication between corporation staff, law enforcement and parents is getting better all the time. And that helps everyone involved make a security situation easier.

Also, cooperation with revised school days, parking lot plans and other changes made to protect the students is at an all-time high.

So, while reading the series of articles, I'd like you the reader to keep in mind the three keywords: communication, cooperation and priorities.

Also, I'd like to remind the readers that, for security reasons and privacy reasons, not all of the internal and external security issues that have gone on recently can be publicly released. I'd like to respect that privacy, as well as give as much information as I can. Those who are putting together plans and doing the work are well aware of what has happened already.

Finally, I am in no way bashing the school corporation. I'm not a fan of sensationalist journalism, and I don't want to turn this into an "Are Your Kids Safe At School? Find Out Tonight At 10" shock piece. I believe the corporation is the most knowledgeable and reliable source of information about school safety, and they know what they're doing. Many people are putting in extra hours, even over Christmas Break, to address concerns that have come up recently.

There have been requests from readers to look outside of the corporation for answers, and I intend to do that. The more ideas, the more opinions we have, the better the decision will be when all is said and done.

I'm going to try to answer questions within the articles, but if you have any questions about the subject, feel free to leave them for me on my blog. I'll respond to as many as possible with the best information that I have.

It's time to communicate with the people of this community, so it can cooperate with the efforts being made to keep the students' security a high priority.
