INshape in Indiana

When I arrived in the state of Indiana in the fall of 2003, I was fresh off of my last high school basketball season and a summer of working three jobs.

I was healthy, in shape and financially okay.

A lot has changed in five years.

Three and a half years of college life, and several jobs that require me to sit in front of a computer have put me in a sedentary cycle.

I feel frumpy.

People tell me that I'm thin, but I know that I don't feel my best.

Now, I realize that I can't go back to my basketball playing days -- my knees would revolt and my ankles would send up white flags.

But I do feel the need to treat myself better.

So I signed up for INshape Indiana's 10 in 10 program.

The state gives me motivation tips, diet suggestions and tools to calculate how well I'm doing.

I'm keeping a food and exercise journal, and trying to keep myself honest.

The goal right now is to lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks by increasing cardio by 5 minutes every week, and cutting calorie intake by about 250 calories per day (about as much as a chocolate bar).

I'm hoping by the completion date, March 10, I'll be feeling pretty good about myself.

I may not lose 10 pounds, but maybe I'll be in a routine that is healthy and I can stick to.

I'll keep you updated.
