Fire closes National Avenue

At 10:22 a.m. Thursday, the Brazil City Fire Department was dispatched to the scene of a fire on the roof of Traditions, 105 E. National Ave., in downtown Brazil. Within one minute, firefighters were on the roof. The fire began when the owner, Rick Bell, was installing rubber roofing on the building using a small torch to heat the materials. He was 3 feet from completing the new roof when the torch ignited a birds nest in a previously patched over old chimney...

The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will present "Peaches And Cream" Sunday, 8 p.m., at the Forest Park Bandshell or Pavilion if rain. "Peaches and Cream" is a seldom heard fox trot by John Philip Sousa which he wrote for his grand-daughter. The theme also reflects Little Orphan Annie in the musical overture "Annie" including "Tomorrow," "It's The Hard Knock Life," "Maybe" and "I Don't Need Anything But You" all in a setting by John Higgins...
