On Thursday evening, when the Clay Community School Board of Trustees approved Dr. Dan Schroeder as the new superintendent of schools many of the more than 40 teachers in the audience were stunned at the details surrounding his contract. Clay County Classroom Teachers' Association President Russ True said the decision was a slap in the face to teachers, who, as of June 1st, started their fourth year without a contract settlement...

A city-sponsored farmers market will sprout up in Brazil by the end of the month, according to City Plan Administrator Brandy Means. Means said she hopes to stage the inaugural market, which will feature locally-grown fruits, vegetables and other produce, the weekend of June 24. She had originally planned to launch the program by the end of May, but said she ran into a few minor hurdles-- settling on a location, determining a fair registration fee and notifying local growers, among others...
