Family member of Terre Haute police officer accused in shooting incident

A member of the family of a Terre Haute Police Department officer has been accused in a shooting. Wednesday at approximately 12:06 p.m., the Terre Haute Police Department responded to the Warren Village Housing, 1300 N. 25th Street, in Terre Haute to investigate a shooting. During their initial investigation, officers determined the alleged shooter was a family member of a THPD officer.

Source of deadly Mechanic Street fire undetermined, investigators say ‘Multiple sources’ could have started the blaze

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office has concluded its investigation of the fatal house fire in Brazil Dec. 5 that took lives of three people. Investigators said there was no way to determine the cause of the fire at 721 East Mechanic Street because “ignition could have come from multiple sources,” said Brazil Fire Department Chief Jake Bennett at Wednesday’s meeting of the Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety.

Two hurt in crash near Clay City

Two drivers were injured after their vehicles were involved in a near head-on crash at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The accident occurred on S.R. 246, about one-half mile west of S.R. 59 and Clay City. A red 2012 Jeep Patriot driven by Janeece Stringer, 45, of Center Point was westbound on S.R. 246 when she attempted to turn into a small business. She turned into the path of an eastbound yellow 2006 Ford Mustang driven by Krysten McDaniel, 29, of Clay City.
