Auditions begin Sunday for Putnam County Playhouse

Contents inside war memorial secured after it's hit by car

A longstanding war memorial that sits on the Clay County Courthouse lawn was heavily damaged Tuesday morning when a vehicle crashed into it. Police still aren’t sure why 65-year-old Carl Lawrence of Brazil drove a Saturn passenger car over the curb and sidewalk from the eastbound lanes of U.S. 40, then through some bushes, over a flagpole and into the war memorial known as the Clay County Honor Roll. Brazil Police Chief Clint McQueen said Lawrence couldn’t recall what happened either.
