I-70 accident creates local traffic backup

An overturned Fed-Ex truck on Interstate-70 was causing traffic backups in Brazil Tuesday morning. According to information provided by the Indiana State police and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred around 4:30 a.m., when the hitch on a Fed-Ex truck carrying two trailers malfunctioned.

Local restaurant damaged by early morning fire, unsure when reopen

A passerby notified Clay County 911 Dispatch Center about a fire in the back of a building along main street, which allowed firefighters to save Mario’s Mexican Restaurant. At 1:46 a.m., members of the Brazil City Fire Department were dispatched to 537 and 539 East National Avenue and discovered a significant portion at the rear of the building on fire. Fire victim identified

The victim of a fatal New Year’s Day structure fire on State Road 340 was identified Tuesday morning Clay County Coroner Nick French confirmed the victim was Brazil resident Ruth Yvonne Young, 41. Young died during the tragic fire at her residence, 5041 West State Road 340, on January 1. Numerous fire departments throughout the area worked the fire, with firefighters from Posey Township attempting entry into the fully engulfed home, but had to retreat due to hazardous conditions and safety reasons.
