Brazil’s Demetrius Downey gets 11-year sentence

A Brazil man was sentenced to 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to level 3 felony neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury to a one-month-old child last summer. Demetrius O. Downey, 39, appeared in Clay Superior Court last Friday morning for the sentencing hearing. Judge Blaine Akers gave approved the negotiated plea agreement, which has Downey serving eight years at a facility of the Indiana Department of Corrections, and three more on probation upon his release...
