William Tanner, 85, of Brazil passed away in his home on May 1, 2019 surrounded by loving family. He was born on April 19, 1934 to William Tanner Clara Tanner (Stephens.) He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Tanner; Daughter Debbie Hicks, as well as his sister Mary Ruth Hayes. William is survived by his son David Tanner; Son-in-law Ron Hicks; Daughters Marilyn James, Beth Mix (Roy), Lisa Backfish (Gary), and Vicki Knust; Brothers, James Tanner (Martha) and Jack Tanner (Judy); Grandchildren Scott James (Juleigh), Billy James, Josh James ( Ashley), Justin James (Gwen), Levi James (Brianna), Lindsey Hicks, Austin Hicks, Brianna Reberger (Eric), Ethan Tanner (Sara), Dabryn Tanner, Renee Reece (Jake), Cole Watts, Wyatt Backfish, Kobe Backfish, Justine Niehaus (Zac), and Tanner Knust; 15 great-grandchildren and two more on their way as well as one great-great-grandchild. William was an athlete, he enjoyed playing ball, but most of all he loved coaching softball. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially mushroom hunting. William loved raising his children as well as eating pie and cake whenever given the opportunity. Visitation for William will be held at Samaritan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave Terre Haute on Monday, May 6, 2019 from 11:00-1:30 with services beginning at 1:30 PM.
